This panel will discuss the multilingual expectations, perceptions and practices of researchers and students in a range of contexts in multilingual universities. Sònia Mas will discuss how students in a multilingual university (University of Lleida) make sense of their Erasmus experiences in Denmark, Italy and the UK, where many are faced with English language use outside of the English language classroom for the first time. Helena Torres will discuss the multilingual practices of members of research groups in Agriculture and Medicine faculties at a Catalan university in contexts ranging from the research laboratory to the faculty canteen. Finally, Vasilica Mocanu will discuss the origins of the language attitudes and the language choices of multilingual university students with regard to English and local languages in three contexts: Finland, Romania, and Catalonia.
